Aug. 4: Chapman State Park Programming-Nature Scavenger Hunt.
Time: 10 AM - 11:30 AM
Do you like Scavenger hunts? Meet at the amphitheater to go on a nature scavenger hunt with the naturalist. We will learn about the plants and animals of Chapman as we go on a short hike. Prizes will be awarded to the children who complete their lists!
A Buffet for the birds.
Time: 1 PM - 2:30 PM
Discover the many different kinds of beaks that birds have and what special advantages they provide. Find out what foods birds like to eat and actuall try out their eating techniques at several learning stations! Meet the park naturalist at the Environmental Learning Center.

Aug. 7: Chapman State Park Programming-Animals Traces
Time: 10 AM - 12:00 PM
Have you ever found an animal track you wished you could identify? Have you ever seen scat along a trail and wondered what animal had been there? Come to the amphitheater and learn how to ID and cast tracks. We will make a plaster casting or a track to paint and take home. We will also learn how to ID animal scats and find out what different animal eats!
Chapman Canoe Tour
Time: 2 PM - 4 PM
Come to the Mooring Area by by the Warming Hut for a short lesson on basic boating safety and then take a canoe tour on the lake and West Branch of the Tionesta Creek. We will learn about the plantsand animals of Chapman as well as the history of the area. Pre-registration is REQUIRED as canoes are limited. You may bring your own canoe or kayak but you must still register. Registration can be made by calling th park office at 814-723-0250 by Thursday 8/6/10

Aug. 8: Kwik Fill Kinzua Classic Bike Race, Kinzua Beach, Near Warren PA, Clarendon PA, Registration open at 7:30 am, race begins at 9 am. $25 preregistration, $30 after 7/25. The Kwik-Fill Kinzua Classic is a bike race around the scenic Kinzua, Pennsylvania area in the Allegheny National Forest. Meet the naturalist at the Beach Concession building to discover what kids of unique adaptations birds haave and make your own kite!
Double Feature Movie Night: PA's Wild Garden and PA's Forgotten Giants.

Meet at the amphitheater to learn about the DCNR's iConserve program and stay for two 30-minute movies about the amazing plant diversity and old growth forests of PA. Aug. 14: Chapman State Park Programming-Geocaching 101
Time: 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM
Meet at the Amphitheater to learn how to use a GPS unit. We will find out what a geocache is, go on a hike, and search for several caches and treasure! There will be a small prize waiting in the final cache for all participants.
Relax with Rover
Time: 3 PM - 4:30 PM
Bring your dog to Parking lot #1 and go on an easy hike with the naturalist around the park. We will stop at several points of interest along the way and will end at the lake for a drink for our furry friends. Dogs must be well-behaved with other dogs and people, remain leashed at all times, have a current license, and must be up to date with vaccinations.

Aug. 20: Chapman State Park Programming-Paddle-caching
Time: 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Bring your canoe or kayak and GPS unit to the Mooring Area by the Warming Hut to try out a new hybrid sport. A limited number of GPS units are available to borrow, so please mention if you need one when you regster. We will go over basics for how to use GPS units and what geocaching is, and then we'll paddle around the lake in search of hidden caches. Pre-registration is required as canoes are limited. You may bring your own canoe or kayak but you must still register. Registrations can be made by calling the park office by August 19.
Moonlight Meteor Shower Paddle
Time: 9 PM - 11 PM
Come paddle Chapman Lake and the west brach of the Tionesta Creek by moonlight. Do you think you can spot meteors from the Perseid meteor shower? Come and learn about the park and its critters. We will also startgaze using binoculars wwhich will be provided on a first come first served basis (or bring your own). Please call the park office to pre-regsiter by Thursday August 12 as park canoes are limited. You are welcome to bring your own canoe or kayak but you must still register! Meet at the warming hut in the mooring area parking lot.

Aug. 21: Warren County, PA. Traveling Family Movie Night. Warren County Visitors Bureau and Council on Tourism is showing a movie on an inflatable 12 X12 screen at various locations in Warren County for you and your family. Bike with the Naturalist

Location: Cook Forest State Park

Please bring your spotlights and meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom for an evening driving tour as we car-poo; to Cook Forest's white-tail hotspots. Come learn about the natural history of our Commonwealth's state mammal, as we cruise the park searching for this elusive animal (2 hours).

Aug. 28: Chapman State Park Programming-Volunteer Day at Chapman
Time: 11:00 AM - 3 PM
Come out to the park for our monthly volunteer event and help keep the park a beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. Projects will include trail maintenance, tree pruning, litter pickup, and more. There will be 2 sessions: 11 AM - 12:30 PM and 1:15 PM - 3 PM. You may attend one session or both. Please bring a bagged lunch and water. Registration is not required but is reccommended. You can regsiter by calling the park office.  Meet at the Environmental Learning Center.

Aug. 28: Cook Forest State Park Program-Cooksburg Petroglyphs
Location: Cook Forest State Park
Time: 3:00 PM
Please meet at the Park Office to take a challenging hike to view historic petroglyphs that were carved by the Indians centuries ago. Come help us as we attempt to possibly identify more petroglyphs in the area). This is a very challenging hike in slippery, wet, and steep terrain. Small children and those with physical ailments are encouraged not to attend. (2 hours)

Aug. 28: Cook Forest State Park Program-Petroglyphs of the Middle Allegheny Valley
Location: Cook Forest State Park
Time: 8:30 PM
Ken Burkett, Excutive Director of the Jefferson County Historical Society, will present a slide program of his recent work on American Indian petroglyph sites located in Venango and Clarion counties. In addition to discussing the various petroglyph forms and location settings, he will present recent theories on their origin, cultural affiliations, and overall relationship to other rock art sites in the Upper Ohio Valley. Program will be held at the Ridge Camp Park Amphitheater. Please bring your chairs and blankets. (1 hour)
