| 2nd: Explore The Night Sky- 9:30pm to 11:00pm - Chapman State Park - Join Tom Traub, Project Director for the Martz Observatory, and learn the essentials of stargazing. We'll be trying out the park's telescope to discover where and when to look for meteor showers, planets and deep sky objects. If you have a telescope fathering dust, bring it out and get some tips on using it from an expert. If conditions are not right for viewing, there will be an alternate program employing a radio telescope to detect microwaves. Meet the park naturalist at the Environmental Classroom. Meet the naturalist at the picnic tables behind the Environmental Learning Center to build and paint a bat house. | 23rd: Dulcimer Workshop presented by the Allegheny Mountain Dulcimer Players - 10am to 12pm - Chapman State Park - Get the family together and learn to play a mountain dulcimer - it is ideal for beginners, children and the person who "always wanted to play an instrument but thought they never could." If you can brush crumbs from a table, you can play a mountain dulcimer. The basic steps to Contra dance, a 300-year-old folk dance, will also be introduced. Clark Parry and Lucinda Durkee of the Allegheny Mountain Dulcimer Players are will known for their TLC in the key of D. Park at pavilion 4 and walk down the service road to the amphitheater. Dulcimers are provided to use for the day or get that dulcimer out of the closet and bring it along. This program is appropriate for ages 8 to 80 and beyond. | 23rd: Dulcimer Performance by the Allegheny Mountain Dulcimer Players - 1pm to 2pm - Chapman State Park - The Allegheny Mountain Dulcimer Players and their workshop participants will inspire us with both gentle and rousing music from this beautiful instrument. Come and relax under the trees and tune in to music from America's past. Clark Parry and Lucinda Durkee of the Allegheny Mountain Dulcimer Players perform from the Adirondack Mountains to the Sun Coast of Florida and founded the Hear of the Alleghenies Folk Music Festival. 28th: " Hike Cook Forest's North Country Trail: Fire Tower-Highland Dr." - 1:00am-Please meet at the Fire Tower Parking Lot for a very strenuous but incredible scenic 7 mile hike along the North Country Trail. Highlights of the trip include views from Seneca Point and from the box at the very top of the Fire Tower. River wildlife such as bald eagle, osprey, and the elusive soft shelled turtle may make an appearance. A large portion of this hike is along the picturesque National Wild and Scenic Clarion River seldom visited by hikers. Come enjoy this section of river that only the rare canoeist ever gets to see. Please pack a lunch, snacks, and bring plenty of water. A daypack and sturdy comfortable hiking shoes are suggested. We will provide transportation back to the starting point. (6 hours) |

Explore Cook Forest at night for Pennsylvania's owls as we car-pool to owl hotspots in the park. Barred, Great Horned, Screech and Saw-whet owls have been known to make an appearance. (2 hours) | |

| 30th: "Canoe the National Wild & Scenic Clarion River." _-10:00am - Cook Forest State Park will be conduction a 4-mile guided interpretive program along the national Wild & Scenic Clarion River. We will present basic canoe safety and handling as well as wildlife on the Clarion River. Please meet at the Park Office where we will transport you to the starting point. Remember to pack lunch, water, and wear proper river footwear. We will present the following topics along the float: basic canoe safety and handling and wildlife of the Clarion River. Be prepared to get up-close and personal with this gently flowing Class I River. Participations must register prior t the trip at the Cooks Forest State Park Office at (814) 744-8407. | 30th: Geocaching - 2:00pm - 4:00pm - Chapman State Park. Learn the basics of geocaching and practice using a GPS unit for this contemporary version of a treasure hunt. We'll test our nature knowledge while searching for temporary caches hidden in the park.. Meet the naturalist at the Environmental Learning Center. GPS units will be provided for this program but feel free to bring your own. This program is for ages 6 and up. | |

Learn about the areas early Native American history while observing sign of prehistoric activities. Tour starts at the Fire Tower parking lot. (1 hour) | |
| 30th: "Native American Lifeways in Northwestern Pennsylvania." -8:00pm - Cook Forest State Park. Please bring your chairs and blankets to the Ridge Camp Park Amphitheater for a slide and lecture presentation by local archaeologist, Ken Burkett. Come and learn about this areas earliest in habitants and what is was like to live here during the different ages of Pennsylvania's prehistoric past. (1 hour) | |

Please bring your binoculars and meet at the Fire Tower Parking lot for a 45 minute historical interpretive tour of the Fire Tower and Seneca Point. Learn about local logging history, observe Indian sign, and take a breathtaking view from the box at the very top of the Fire Tower which will be open until 2:30pm. (3 hours) | |
