In the years 1825-1865, pioneers carved a way of life out of the wilderness where the Seneca Nation of Indians once roamed. In 1832, the first roadway connected the Allegheny River to the Clarion River. The tannery industry revolutionized the lumber business and made Sheffield the last great lumber town in Pennsylvania. Strategically located in the heart of the Allegheny National Forest, Clarendon is home to shops, a boat launch, the Johnny Appleseed Festival, the Fireman’s Festival and the Chapman State Park.
