Allegheny Reservoir

Warren County claims nearly 9,000 acres of the 12,000 acre Allegheny reservoir created by the dam. Picture a sparkling lake surrounded by a national forest and you have the perfect setting for your next vacation. Pleasure craft of all sized appear on the waterway in the spring, summer and autumn. A marina located just 3 miles from the dam gives easy access to the waterway. There are several other boat launches placed strategically around the lake by the US Forest Service. Recreational boat rentals, campsites accessible by water and paradise providing trophy catches. The panoramic splendor is one to be remembered and the recreational opportunities at Kinzua are unparalleled.

A few hundred yards downstream at the Big Bend Access Area, a seasonal Visitors Center, open from Memorial Day through Labor Day and weekends from September to mid October, is staffed to help visitors with their tour through the area. Fish and wildlife displays, slide programs and various other exhibits also provide a good orientation to the area. Spacious, well landscaped grounds offer an opportunity to stroll along 2 short nature trails and learn about local flora and fauna. Several picnic tables, park benches, grills and a small playground make this area ideal to stop, rest and picnic for a while. A federal fish hatchery near the dam rears over 1 million finger-sized lake trout each year. Located on the right bank of the river, it is accessible only by traveling Hemlock Rd. from Warren's east side. It is open to the public daily from 9:00am to 3:00pm

Kinzua Dam

Located on Rt.59, just east of the city of Warren, this flood control/hydro-electric dam was completed in 1965 by the US Corp of Engineers. Visitors may view this engineering marvel first hand from a portion of its roadway or adjacent overlook areas.
