Meet at the Children's Fishing Pond behind the Park Office to learn basic baiting, casting, and knot tying techniques designed to help make you a better fisherman. 2: Night Hike-Cook Forest State Park Program, 8 PM. Please meet at the Fire Tower Parking lot for an evening hike to the Fire Tower and Seneca Poing. Investigate the forgotten caves of Seneca Point. Vome search for owls, raccoons, porcupines, coyotes, and other criiters of the night. Learn some of the adaptive designs of night animals that allow them to be masters of lining in the dark. Meet the park naturalist at the Beach Concession Building to discover what kinds of unique adaptations bats have and make your own kite. 8:30 PM - 10 PM. Movie: The Secret World of Bats. 3: A Walk Through the Forest Cathedral-Cook Forest State Park Program, 3 PM. Please meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Center for an interpretive hike into the finest stand of old growth E. white pine in the entire Northeastern U.S. Don't miss this unique opportunity to observe the Longfellow Pine, tallest known tree in the entire Northeastern U.S.! Learn how to identify old growth forest characteristics, and observe different types of environmental disturbance that are an integral part of old growth forest ecosystems. (2 hours)

3: Animal Calls-Cook Forest State Park Program, 9 PM. Please bring your chairs, blankets, and your best animal call imitation to the Ridge Camp park Amphitheater for an evening of animal calls. Join the park naturealist as he demonstrates how and why animals of PA talk to each other. (1 hour)

3: Chapman State Park Programming-Chapman Canoe Tour. Chapman State Park, Clarendon, PA 16313. 3:30 PM - 5 PM. Come to the Mooring Area by the Warming Hut for a short lesson on basic boating safety and then take a canoe tour on the lake and West Branch of the Tionesta Creek. We will lean about the plants and animals of Chapman as well as the history of the area. Pre-registration is REQUIRED as canoes are limited. You may bring your own canoe or kayak but you must still register. Registrations can be made by calling the park office at 814-724-0250 by Friday 7/2/2010. 6:30 PM - 8 PM. Secrets of the Indian Medicine Man. L. Christian Mosebach, Forestry and Natural Resources Educator for Penn State Cooperative Extension, will present a family woods walk titled "Secrets of the Indian Medicine Man." This easy 1 hour walk will cover local plants used by Native Americans and pioneers for both food and medicine. In addition, participants will learn to identify some common PA trees and wildflowers. 4: Fire Tower/Seneca Point Historical Tour-Cook Forest State Park Program, 11:30 AM. Please bring your binoculars and meet at the Fire Tower Parking Lot for a 45 minute historical interpretive tour of the Fire Tower and Seneca Point. Learn about local logging history, observe Indian sign, and take a breathtaking view from the box at the very top of the Fire Tower which will be open until 2:30 PM.

4: Chapman State Park Programming-Eco Sand Sculptures Competition. Chapman State Park, Clarendon, PA 16313. 3:30 PM - 5 PM. Eco Sand Sculpture Competition. Are you up to the challenge? Come out to the beach to learn about ecosystems and enter a nature-themed sand sculpture into the competition. Small prizes and certificates will be awarded to winners! Please bring your own sand equiptment. 6:30 PM - 8 PM. Relax with Rover. Bring your dog to Parking Lot #1 and go on an easy hike with the park naturalist around the park. We will stop at several points of interest along the way and will end at the lake for a drink for our furry friends. Have you ever seen scat along a trail and wondered what animal had been there? Come to the Environmental Learning Center and learn how to ID and cast tracks. 9: Bat Emergence-Cook Forest State Park Program, 8 PM. Ever watch a colony of bats emerge in the evening to feast on pesky insects? Bring your lawn chairs, ice-tea, and bug repellent to the Park Office to learn about the natural history of bats, dispel some of their myths, and help the park naturalist discover how many bats can actually live in soffit & faxcia. 10: Hike Cook Forest Series: Maple Drive Old Growth-Cook Forest State Park Program, 11:30 AM. Cook Forest is home to over 2100 acres of various types of old growth forest. Come enjoy a challenging cross-country hike through one of the park's unique hardwood forest. Most of the old conifers were timbered from this site before the 1890's, but much of the old white oak, N.red oak, American beech, black cherry, red maple, and cucumbertrees remain. Please meet at the Log Cabin Environmental Learning Center to car-pool to one of cook Forest's newly described old growth forest areas. (3 Hours)

14: Tall & Majestic Trees of Northwestern PA, 4 PM. Cook Forest State Park is home to the finest stand of ancient Eastern white pine in the entire Northeastern United States. Within its boundaries resides the greatest concentration of white pines taller than 160 ft. north of the Great Smoky Mountains. It also boasts 19 record trees including 13 that are Northeastern U.S. height champs, 3 PA girth champs, and 17 old growth tree species. Cook Forest is also home to 450 year old E. Hemlocks, 350 year old E. white pines, 300 year old white oaks, and 250 year old black cheeries. Although Cook Forest is THE place to come to view one of the finest stands of old growth forest in the entire Northwestern U.S.; there ar numerous Northwestern Pa sites that also hold many large & tall tree treasures such as the Lake Erie Escarpment, Walnut Creek, and Anders Run and Heart's Content Natural Areas. Participants are encouraged to call ahead to verify times and locations, and for specifics about the level of difficulty and what to bring on the hikes, canoe trips, or auto tours.

31: Chapman State Park Programming-Volunteer Day at Chapman. Come out to the park for our monthly volunteer event and help keep the park a beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. Projects will include trail maintenance, tree pruning, litter pick up, and more. There will be 2 sessions: 11 AM - 12:30 PM; a break from 12:30 PM - 1:45 PM and an afternoon session from 1:15 PM to 3 PM. You may attend one session or both. Please bring a bagged lunch and water. Registration is not required but is recommended. You can register by calling the park office at 814-723-0250 or email chapmansp@state.pa.us. Meet at the boat launch parking lot.
