1st: Shy Salamanders - 11:00am to 12:00pm, Chapman State Park - Meet the naturalist at the amphitheater for this short walk on the nature trail. Be prepared to get your feet wet. We will discover how salamanders survive in their wet world and learn the life cycle of the red-spotted newt. We will explore some salamander hideouts and find out how many kinds live at the park. 14th: National Get Outdoors Day 10am - 4pm - the Allegheny Outdoor Club and Partners will present a day-long program at Chapman State Park with a series of informative outdoor presentations and demonstrations. Subjects and activities will include outdoor gear, kayaking, hiking, geocaching, Warren County's first-ever Great Outdoor Gear Swap and Sale, a flight of activities for kids, a program on "The Night Sky" and more. 14th: National Get Outdoors Day "Just For Kids" Activities - Chapman State Park - These programs are for children ages 4-12. Children under 4 may attend with an adult.

10:00am - Nature Games - Play games and find out how to use all of your senses and to think like an animal. Discover many of the ways animals survive in the natural world. Meet Dennis Anderson and the park naturalist at the Environmental Classroom.

11:00am - Bird Watching Primer - Learn how to recognize birds by where they live, what they eat and how they fly and by their shape, color and calls. Meet the park naturalist at the Environmental classroom.

12:00pm - Nature Crafts - Make a pinecone bird, a bug box or a nature journal. Meet the park naturalist at the Environmental classroom.

1:00pm - Wildflower Walk - Explore the nature trail and seek out wildflowers and other woodland plants. Meet the park naturalist at the amphitheater. Park at pavilion 4 and walk down the service road to the amphitheater.

2:30pm - Woodland Treasure Hunt - Test your nature knowledge while having fun with a scavenger hunt. Once we enjoy these treasures, we'll leave them where we find them. 15th: Design A Habitat - Chapman State Park - 2:00 to 3:00pm - What's a habitat? Find out about the different places animals make their homes. Build habitats in the sand for "mystery" critters. 20th: End The Week Right Hike - 4:00pm to 5:30pm - Chapman State Park - Meet the naturalist at pavilion 4. Relax and explore the wildlife and plants of Chapman along the Nature Trail while learning the seven essentials of Leave No Trace hiking. Remember to bring plenty of water and insect repellent. 21st: Batty for Movie Night - 8:30pm to 10:00pm - Chapman State Park - Meet the park naturalist at pavilion 4. Bring the whole family to discover surprising bat facts, what bats live in Pennsylvania and how bats benefit us all. Take a short walk and look for bats as they emerge to hunt insects, then stay to watch the movie, "The Secret World of Bats." The movie will be shown at the amphitheater at 9:00pm; bring your own soft drinks, snacks and blankets. In case of rain, it will be moved to pavilion 4. For more information contact 814-723-0250

22nd: Family Fishing Program - Located at Chapman State Park, Pavilion 1 from 1-4pm. Families should be pre-registered and arrive promptly at 1. The program will include basics on being a S.M.A.R.T. angler as well as how to rig a fishing rod, types of bait, knot tying, rules and regulations, casting, hands-on fishing and more. Participants are not required to have their fishing license while participating in the program. All equipment and handout materials will be supplied. All programs are FREE and open to the public. 28th: Canoe the National Wild & Scenic Clarion River: What Critters Walk These Banks? - 1:00pm - Cook Forest State Park will be conducting a 4 mile guided interpretive canoeing program along the National Wild & Scenic Clarion River. Please meet at the Park Office where we will transport the group to the starting point. Remember to pack a lunch, water, and wear proper river footwear. Participants must pre-register prior to the trip at the Park Office by calling 814-744-8407. Sorry, we only have 8 canoes. Space is limited so reserve early. (4 hours)

28th: Canoe Tour on Chapman Lake - 7:00pm to 8:30pm - Chapman State Park - Meet the naturalist at the boat rental building beside the beach. Relax and explore the plant and animal life of Chapman Lake by water. Canoes are available on loan from the park or you can bring your own canoe or kayak. Please pre-register by calling the park office at 814-723-0250 by June 27th, as there is limited space for this program. No rental boats will be available.
