Cook Forest State Park will be conducting an 8-mile guided interpretive canoe trip along the National Wild & Scenic Clarion River. We will present basic canoe safety and handling as well as wildlife and history on the Clarion River. Don't forget your fishin poles. Cook Forest State park is home to the finest stand of ancient Eastern white pine in the entire Northeastern U.S. Within its boundaries resides 19 record trees and the greatest concentration of white pines taller than 160 ft north of the Great Smoky Mountain. Cood Forest is also home to 450 year old E. hemlocks, 350 year old E. white pines, 300 year old white oaks, and 250 year old black cherries. Although Cook Forest is THE place to come to view one of the finest stands of old growth forest in the entire Northeastern U.S.; there are numerous Northwestern PA sites that also hold many large and tall tree treasures such as the Lake Erie Escarpment, Wintergreen Gorge, Anders Run and Heart's Content Natural Areas. Sept 5: Cook Forest State Park Program-Fire Tower/Seneca Point Historical Tour

Please bring your binoculars and meet at the Fire Tower parking lot for a 45 minute historical interpretive tour of the Fire Tower and Seneca Point. Learn about local logging history, observe Indian sign, and take a breathtaking view from the box at the very top of the Fire Tower which will be open until 2:30 PM (3 hours).

The PA Fish and Boat Commission invites you to spend the afternoon with your family fishing at Chapman State Park. This FREE program offers basics on how to rig a fishing rod, types of bait, knot tying, rules and regulations, casting practice, hands on fishing and basics on being a S.M.A.R.T. angler. Fishing licenses are not required duing the program, however they are requireded for anyone over 16 years of age if they want to fish after the program ends. All equiptment and handout materials will be supplied. Items you may wish to bring are sunscreen, bug spray, water, weather appropriate clothing, lunch/snack and your camera.
